Jeremy was born in Manhattan. Raised in Evanston, Illinois. His parents are Byrne Piven and Joyce Hiller Piven famous for their Piven Theater Workshop. Of course Jeremy was a student here but also his friend John Cusack attended the Piven theater workshop. He attended Drake University as a student of the theater. Later earning his degree from New York University, Piven also attended the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center and The National Theater of Great Britain, where he trained intensively in Shakespearean acting.
